La Canada Flintridge - Youth Chamber

The City of La Cañada Flintridge invites interested persons who are residents of the City to submit applications to serve on Youth Council. Effective June 1, 2010 the following vacancies will occur:

Youth Council: 8 vacancies. This Council provides a forum for the exchange of positive ideas and information regarding youth-related issues.

Youth Council appointments are for two years expiring May 31, 2012. Youth Council members must be between the ages of 14 and 19 during the duration of their service.

All applicants must be residents of the City of La Cañada Flintridge except for one member of the Design Commission who is an owner or manager of a business within the city.

Applications are available at City Hall or may be downloaded. To be considered, applications must be received by the City Clerk no later than 5 p.m. on March 19, 2010. The City Council will conduct interviews in April and May. Appointments will be made at the May 17, 2010 meeting and terms begin June 1, 2010. The purpose of the Youth Council is to provide a forum specifically for the discussion of youth issues and to expose youth to the nature and scope of city government. Duties of all Youth Council members include proposing, developing and recommending programs intended to provide recreational opportunities, skills development, independence and self-acknowledgement and to promote acceptence of youth in all aspects of community through cooperation with and assisting community agencies and city departments in order to foster mutual understanding and respect for youth.

Youth Council members also recommend to the City Council changes in procedure, policies and legislation for the purposes of improving youth involvement in the community.

Youth Council consist of nine members that serve a maximum of two two-year terms. Members must be residents of the City of La Cañada Flintridge and between the ages of 14-19. Resolution No. 08-09 establishes these requirements, Resolution No. 03-54 & 08-09 establish the method of appointment to the Youth Council.
