City of La Canada Flintridge

The City of La Cañada Flintridge invites interested persons who are residents of the City to submit applications to serve on the Parks & Recreation Commission. Effective June 1, 2010 the following vacancies will occur:

Parks & Recreation Commission: 3 vacancies. This Commission develops immediate and long-range plans for the City’s recreation needs; and schedules public recreational activities utilizing public facilities.

All appointments will be for four years expiring May 31, 2014. Members may serve no more than two consecutive four-year terms.

All applicants must be residents of the City of La Cañada Flintridge except for one member of the Design Commission who is an owner or manager of a business within the city.

Applications are available at City Hall or may be downloaded. To be considered, applications must be received by the City Clerk no later than 5 p.m. on March 19, 2010. The City Council will conduct interviews in April and May. Appointments will be made at the May 17, 2010 meeting and terms begin June 1, 2010. The Parks & Recreation Commission is responsible for advising the City Council on various matters pertaining to parks and recreation. The Commission develops immediate and long-range plans for the recreational needs of the community keeping in mind the wide-range of recreational interests, the limited extent of recreational facilities in the City and the need to acquire additional, affordable recreational facilities in the future.

The Commission annually coordinates the Music-in-the-Park concert series. In addition, the Commission works with local schools, private and non-profit service providers to ensure that existing recreational services and facilities are made available and are coordinated in order to maximize their use.

The Parks & Recreation Commission meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 6:00PM in the council chambers of the La Cañada Flintridge City Hall. Written correspondence to the Commission or any member may be directed to City Hall.
