City of La Canada Flintridge

A Business License is required for anyone conducting a business within the City of La Cañada Flintridge. The fees for a general business license are based on the type of business. There are separate forms for general business licenses and contractors. Contractors must have a business license before a building permit will be issued by the Building & Safety Division. Business License applications should be submitted to the Administrative Services Department at City Hall.

If you are conducting a Commercial Tree Service, a supplement is required in addition to the Business License application.

If conducting a home based business you must apply for a Home Occupation Permit. Home-based businesses are permitted if certain criteria are met as set forth in the Municipal Code. The fees for a home-based business are based on whether the business is full-time or part-time (20 hours per week or less). There is also a one-time fee of $25 for processing all home occupation permits. The criteria include space used by the home occupation, employees, signs, traffic, garage use, equipment used, emissions and noise generated by the use. Application is made in the Administrative Services Department, and forwarded to the Director of Community Development for review and authorization.

A Tobacco Retailers License is required in addition to a business license for businesses that sale tobacco products such as cigarettes. To apply, simply submit the application with payment to the Administrative Services Department at City Hall.
