FICTITIOUS BUSINESS NAME

You need to apply for a Fictitious Business Name Statement (or DBA-Doing Business As) in order to set up your company’s checking account. This must be applied for and filed in the county in which you are doing business, ie: Los Angeles County. Fictitious Name statements must be re-newed every 5 years. The filing fees are: $23.00 for 1 FBN and 2 registrants plus $4.00 for each additional FBN/registrant.

You may obtain your FBN/DBA by applying in person at the Registrars office-Recorder/County Clerk, Business Filing, and Registration. The Registrar’s offices are located at: 12400 East Imperial Hwy., window 17, in the city of Norwalk. State law requires that within 30 days the registrant must publish a statement in a newspaper of general circulation in the county in which the principal place of business is located.

There are four newspapers in the Foothill area that accept and publish FBN/ DBA. The first two are located in La Cañada Flintridge and the second two are in the outlying areas.
